NAM Social Calendar 

 
We will be hosting a number of social events throughout the week at NAM. Each night offers a unique opportunity to connect, unwind, and have fun with fellow attendees. These events are the perfect way to build relationships, share ideas, and create lasting memories in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. Welcome Reception (Sunday 6th July)

 
The NAM2025 welcome reception will be held on Sunday 6th July 2025 from 18:00. Join us for a joyous night in the conference venue, the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC), to catch up with old and new friends, network and meet colleagues in an informal setting. Enjoy complimentary food, drink and live music from the Durham Physics band.
 

NAM 5-a-side Football Tournament (Monday 7th July)

 
The legendary NAM football tournament will be held at Maiden Castle Sports Centre, also known as the Graham Sports Centre, on Monday, July 7th. Four 3G pitches have been booked in preparation for this exciting event. Kick-off is at 18:30 with 5-a-side teams playing 12-minute halves. Depending on how many teams sign up, group stages will be followed by a medal match. The champion will have their team engraved on the NAM Cup!
 
Everyone is welcome, no matter your skill level! You don’t need to know the rules or have any experience—just come and have fun. And if you're not sure about playing, we'd love for you to join us as a spectator and cheer on the community!

We encourage appropriate footwear and kit. We will provide footballs, bibs and whistles.
 
A Durham representative will guide anyone who wants to walk down (it is approximately 15-20 minutes walk), leaving at around 6pm from the TLC (we will confirm on the day). There is also parking (including disabled parking) available at the sports centre.

NAM Conference Dinner and RAS Awards Ceremony (Tuesday 8th July)

 
This special evening will start with a drink reception at 18:15, Tuesday, July 8th at the Newcastle Civic Centre, followed by the awards ceremony and a three-course meal. More information can be found on the NAM conference dinner and RAS awards ceremony webpage.
 

Board Games Night (Wednesday 9th July)

 
Looking for a fun and relaxing evening? Join us for our Board Game Social Night, taking place on Wednesday, July 9th in the TLC! Whether you're a seasoned strategist or a casual gamer, there's something for everyone. We will have 15+ games available! 
 

3 minutes to Inspire (Thursday 10th July)

Are you ready to learn about exciting research projects? Join the 3 Minutes to Inspire Competition at this year’s NAM at Durham University.  This is your chance to listen to our amazing young researchers present their thesis in just 3 minutes. This session is accessible to anyone regardless of their background in Physics.
Organized by Dr. Gavin Leroy.

Are you a master of obscure facts, pop culture, history, and everything in between? Do you love a good challenge and enjoy the thrill of answering the toughest astronomical questions?
 
Whether you're joining forces with colleagues from your institution or teaming up with other bright minds from across the community, this quiz night offers the perfect mix of competition and camaraderie. Taking place on Thursday, July 10th, in the TLC, this event promises an evening of cosmic questions, astronomical facts, and plenty of fun.
 
So, think you can outsmart the universe and claim the title of Quiz Champion? Come show off your astronomical prowess and earn some serious bragging rights—your name will echo in the halls of the community for the next year!
